Bunpimay Tet, also known as Kut Songkan, or Festival to celebrate the rainy season which is the biggest festival in Laos that takes place from April 14-16 every year when the sky is high and the big rivers are full of water, symbolizing a prosperous new year. The unique feature of Bunpimay Tet is the custom of splashing water on each other; This originates from the Lao people concept that only water can bring life, wash away all evil worries, bring cleanliness, purity, and revival.
