Bunpimay Tet, also known as Kut Songkan, or Festival to celebrate the rainy season which is the biggest festival in Laos that takes place from April 14-16 every year when the sky is high and the big rivers are full of water, symbolizing a prosperous new year. The unique feature of Bunpimay Tet is the custom of splashing water on each other; This originates from the Lao people concept that only water can bring life, wash away all evil worries, bring cleanliness, purity, and revival. The birth of this custom is associated with the agricultural production life of wet rice cultivation, the custom of splashing water to pray for favorable weather and bring freshness to all things, warmth and happiness to people.
